Mission Statement

The Chair of International Relations and European Studies is a place of excellent academic debate based on the Humboldtian ideal of the unity of research and teaching. The team is made up of committed staff at all career levels. It is guided by an appreciation of openness, diversity and international cooperation.

Our principles include:

  • We pursue ambitious, well-prioritized goals in our work, which we regularly review and adjust.
  • We value all members of the team equally, support each other and learn from each other.
  • We remain curious and open to new questions, developments and perspectives.
  • We see ourselves as a conscientious and professional team. Expectations are communicated clearly and in a well-structured manner. The fulfilment of expectations is supported by all team members.
  • We treat all team members, colleagues and students with respect and cultivate an appreciative feedback culture.
  • We research topics of societal relevance and participate in academic and public discourse with our findings.

These principles shape our activities in research, teaching and career development in equal measure.

Our thoughts and actions are based on the concept of participatory democracy. This ideal guides our work both internally and externally.
