Application & Admission
Who is eligible to apply?

- All graduates of a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree programs which include political science, sociology or social science components amounting to at least 70 credit points (ECTS) are eligible to apply.
- This degree may have been obtained either in Germany or abroad.
- If you have not yet completed your studies at the time of application, you are still eligible to apply as long as you have acquired at least 150 credit points (ECTS) by the time of application, of which at least 70 points are from the above-mentioned subjects.
Application procedure and Admission

Applications can be submitted annually from the end of May until July 15 to start your studies in the winter term of the corresponding year. The application must be submitted online via WueStudy in due time and form. The following link provides an explanatory video on the application procedure via WueStudy.
Once all applications have been received, the documents of all applicants are reviewed against the subject-specific regulations of the degree program and discussed in the degree programme's aptitude committee.
You will receive feedback on the status of your application during the first two weeks of August at the latest:
- Admission offer: via WueStudy
- Notification of rejection: via WueStudy
- Invitation to the aptitude test: by e-mail
Required Documents (Submission via WueStudy)

- Degree certificate of first/bachelor's degree (If not yet available, a transcript of records or a provisional certificate of achievements up to that points sufficient)
- Most recent transcript of records
- Formfor the best 70 credit points from political science, sociology and/or social science modules.
- Proof of your university entrance qualification
- Proof of English language proficiency at level B2 of the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages” (CEFR) in a suitable manner (e.g. by TOEFL, IELTS, FCE, at least a satisfactory grade in English in a domestic higher education entrance qualification (HZB), or an equivalent foreign HZB with proven knowledge of English).
Who will be invited to an aptitude test?

If your application cannot be issued a clear admission or rejection statement by the program's aptitude committee for reasons of content or form, you will be invited by email to take a written aptitude test. Usually, the test takes place during the second or third week of august. In previous years, 3-5% of applicants were invited to the test.
In the exam, you will be asked to answer one or more open questions from four of the seven fields of study of the SowiNa program in order to prove your suitability for the programme.

Applications from abroad

Please take note of the following information provided by the university’s international office:
Applicants whose native language is not German or who have obtained their first degree in a non-German-language degree program must submit proof of German language proficiency at level DSH II. This proof will be reviewed by the University’s International Office. Information and advice on this can be found on the website of the International Office.
