Supervision of Doctoral and Postdoctoral Research Projects

Due to the large number of inquiries regarding the supervision of doctoral and postdoctoral research projects (including German „habilitation theses“) , inquiries can only be considered on the basis of a complete application.

The following documents are required for consideration:

  • Motivation letter
  • Research proposal, including a plan for financing the doctoral or habilitation project / postdoctoral research project
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Academic transcripts, certificates, and other relevant documentation
  • Contact details of two referees; providing their contact information is sufficient

The submitted documents should clearly indicate:

  • the reasons for pursuing a doctoral degree, habilitation, or postdoctoral research project,
  • the specific research question to be addressed,
  • the theoretical and methodological design of the research project,
  • the project's innovative scientific contribution,
  • the work and research already completed in preparation for the project,
  • how the doctoral or habilitation project / postdoctoral research project will be funded, and
  • whether the applicant meets the relevant requirements for a doctoral degree, habilitation, or postdoctoral research project at the University of Würzburg.

Please include your full contact details on all documents and combine all documents into one clearly structured and legible PDF file. Due to the large number of inquiries received, each application will be considered individually on the basis of the complete documentation submitted. Contacting the supervisor or submitting an application therefore does not constitute an entitlement to supervision. Please also note that doctoral and habilitation projects conducted in English are given preference. In order to allow sufficient time for the application to be reviewed and, where necessary, for any required coordination, inquiries related to scholarship applications must be submitted no later than eight weeks before the application deadline of the respective funding organization.
