During the 2026–27 winter term and the 2027 summer term, the Sustainability Forum’s events will be held under the theme “Sustainability in the Shadow of War”.

This year, the ECPR General Conference took place from September 8th to 11th, 2026 in Kraków and brought together more than 2.000 political scientists from all around the world. The IPS was very engaged and contributed to several sections in different research fields of Comparative Politics, Sustainability Studies and Knowledge Research.

Die Public Climate School (PCS) bringt vom 9. bis 15. November 2026 Klimabildung in Schulen, Universitäten und Gesellschaft. Viele Institutionen präsentieren eine Woche lang ein vielfältiges Programm rund um Klimagerechtigkeit, Nachhaltigkeit und Demokratiebildung. The IPS team and its partners have published four calls for papers for proposed panels at the 30th Congress of the German Political Science Association (DVPW), which will take place at Leipzig University from 7–10 September 2027.

On September 19th, 2026, Dr. Christoph Mohamad-Klotzbach gave an online lecture on “Public Policy and the Far Right” as part of the Graduate course on “The Far Right in the 21st Century: Electoral and Party Impacts and Political Agendas” at the Brazilian universities UFRGS (Rio de Janeiro) and IESP-UERJ (Porto Alegre).

Dr. Philipp Gieg and Jun.-Prof. Ulrike Zeigermann from IPS have published a call for papers for a proposed panel on "The Politics of Ecocide: Multi-Level Perspectives on Criminalizing Environmental Harm" at the 29th IPSA World Congress of Political Science, which will take place at the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali in Rome from 24–28 July 2027.

This was the topic of an Online-Seminar on “Teaching Sustainability across Social Sciences, Political Science and Law: Critical Approaches to the SDGs in Higher Education” on July 23rd, 2026, which was organized by Ana Colomer Segura (Universitat de València) and Christoph Mohamad-Klotzbach (JMU Würzburg).

From July 6-8, 2026, MARKOPOLO members Ulrike Zeigermann and Christoph Mohamad-Klotzbach (both JMU Würzburg) participated at the 5th International Workshop on Public Policy (IWPP) of the International Public Policy Association (IPPA) in Ottawa.
