Division of Political Theory

The Devision of Political Theory concentrates on the stability conditions of political orders and current challenges of constitutional democracy from a history of ideas, normative and systematic perspective.

Particular focal points in research and teaching are theories of justice, theories of democracy, actor and institutional theory, the political theory of the city and constitutional theory.

Theory-Colloquium

With the start of the winter semester 2025–26, a new interdepartmental lecture series was launched: the Theory Colloquium. It is a cooperation between the Institute of Political Science and Sociology (IPS) and the Institute of Philosophy, organized by Matthias Flatscher (Philosophy), Matthias Gsänger and Verena Frick (Political Theory) as well as Daniel Suber (Sociology).

The Theorieblog is a forum of the German-speaking theory community for political theory, philosophy and the history of ideas. Verena Frick is a member of the editorial team - suggestions for blog posts are always welcome!

DVPW Working Group on Politics and Law

The Working Group on Politics and Law offers a forum within the German Political Science Association for all colleagues who are involved in this field and organizes workshops and events. Verena Frick is co-spokesperson and is looking forward to hearing from interested parties!

Enacting the Caring Society: DFG funds international collaboration

The DFG is funding an international collaboration on the topic of 'Enacting the caring society: Feminist Practices of Care in Cities in the Global South and Global North’, which was initiated by Dr Verena Frick and her colleagues in the Netherlands, Great Britain, and Germany. The collaboration aims to establish a research group to investigate feminist care practices in cities in the Global South and North, with the goal of developing a theory of political care.
