India’s Contestation of Global Norms: Philipp Gieg at the ISA-SAWP Conference in Colombo

Dr. Philipp Gieg from the Chair of International Relations and European Studies participated in the South Asia in World Politics (SAWP) Conference of the International Studies Association (ISA) in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The conference focused on South Asia’s role in international politics and the implications of a changing international order for the region. Philipp Gieg presented his research on India’s contestation of global norms.

During the multi-day conference in Colombo, Dr. Philipp Gieg presented his research on India’s engagement with and contestation of global norms. His contribution was part of an international panel, and the discussion provided an opportunity to present and further develop his research in exchange with an international academic audience.

The conference opened with a keynote address by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya. In her address, she reflected, among other topics, on Sri Lanka’s position in a changing international environment and emphasized the importance of dialogue and international cooperation. The closing keynote was delivered by Shivshankar Menon, one of India’s most distinguished diplomats and foreign policy experts. Menon has served, among other positions, as India’s Foreign Secretary and National Security Advisor.

The ISA South Asia in World Politics Conference brought together scholars and practitioners in Colombo to discuss current political developments in South Asia, regional and global dynamics, and the region’s role in a changing international order. In addition to the academic panels, the conference provided numerous opportunities for scholarly exchange and international networking.
