04/09/2026

In March 2026, Dr. Philipp Gieg undertook a two-week working visit to India, which served to facilitate his participation in international conferences, strengthen international collaborations, and engage in intensive exchange with partner institutions on site.

At the center of the visit was his participation in the annual conference “Africa’s Global Engagement in the Contemporary World” at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, organized by the Centre for African Studies at the renowned School of International Studies. The conference provided a high-level forum for interdisciplinary dialogue on Africa’s role in the global order and brought together leading scholars, representatives from diplomacy and politics, as well as numerous students.

Dr. Philipp Gieg presented on German Africa policy at the conference and contributed as a discussant. Participants included senior diplomatic representatives from India’s Ministry of External Affairs and international embassies.

Another key component of the visit involved activities within ICAS:MP (M.S. Merian – R. Tagore International Centre of Advanced Studies ‘Metamorphoses of the Political’), a German-Indian center based in New Delhi dedicated to the study of political and societal transformations, in which IPS has been involved since its inception. Here, Dr. Philipp Gieg took part in several business meetings and multi-day workshops. The program was complemented by meetings with Indian colleagues and cooperation partners, as well as representatives of German institutions and the German Embassy.
