Visiting Lecturers from India 2015

Prof. Dr. Ummu Salma Bava

Prof. Bava visited our Institute in Summer Semester 2015 for the third time in order to discuss current topics in International Politics with Würzburg students. The renowned Professor from New Delhi was involved in numerous seminars at the Department for European Studies and International Relations.

Prof. Bava teaches and does research as a Professor for European Studies at JNU in New Delhi. She is the director of the Europe Area Studies Programme as well as the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Advanced Studies. In January 2012 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for her personal effort in building German-Indian Relations, which she further demonstrated through her engagement in Würzburg.

Prof. Dr. Sanjay Chaturvedi

Prof. Dr. Sanjay Chaturvedi (Picture: WOSCE), visited the Institute for Political Science and Sociology in summer 2015. He is a Professor for Political Science at the Department of Political Science at Panjab University in Chandigarh. 

Prof. Chaturvedi teaches and does research in the field of International Relations, especially theory and Geopolitics in the Indian Ocean region. He also focuses on the topics Climate Change and Sustainability. On July 2nd, 2015, he gave a talk about "Climate Terror. A Critical Geopolitics of Climate Change" at the Institute.

Prof. Dr. Valerian Rodrigues

Prof. Dr. Valerian Rodrigues, from the Centre for Political Studies at Jawaharlal-Nehru University in New Delhi, visited the Institute for the third time after being a guest in Würzburg during the Summer Semesters 2011 and 2014.

Prof. Rodrigues focuses on Political Philosophy, Social and Political Thought in India as well as representation and political institutions. Among his numerous publications are included his, together with B.L. Shankar, published study on “The Indian Parliament: A Democracy at Work” as well as his article on “Muslim Political Thought in Modern India”. 

At the end of 2014 the 4th Edition of the Würzburger Arbeitspapiere zur Politikwissenschaft und Sozialforschung (WAPS), composed by Prof. Rodrigues, was released with the topic “Elections and Civil Society in India”. He focuses on the Indian Parliamentary elections of 2014 and analyses the results with a differentiated look at the electoral behavior of social groups.

Prof. Dr. Mohammed Badrul Alam

Prof. Dr. Mohammed Badrul Alam (Picture: JMI) visited the Institute for Political Science and Sociology during the Summer Semester 2015. He is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science at Jamia Millia Islamia (Islamic University) in New Delhi.

Prof. Alam teaches and does research on Indian Domestic and Foreign Policy. His most recent publications include “Democracy and Good Governance: Re-inventing the Public Service Delivery System in India”, “India, US, and the Nuclear Deal”, and “Back to the Roots: Political Participation of Indian American Diaspora in US and India”.
