Im Rahmen des 52. Internationalen Filmwochenendes Würzburg fand eine besondere Vorführung des Dokumentarfilms Soldaten des Lichts von Julian Vogel und Johannes Büttner statt. Die Veranstaltung verband Filmpräsentation und wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung und bot Raum für einen vertieften Austausch zwischen Filmschaffenden und Masterstudierenden des Seminars „Soziologie der Kritik“ von Prof. Dr. Elke Wagner.

How do literature, music, and politics negotiate the complex power relations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo? On 14 January 2026, the Africa Competence Centre (ACCUW), together with the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, invited audiences to an evening rich in perspectives. Following a thematic introduction by Dr. Philipp Gieg, an interdisciplinary panel discussed how cultural forms of expression can reshape resistance and participation.

Inwiefern zerstören Autoritarisierungs- und Faschisierungsprozesse Leben und Welt durch verschiedene Gewaltformen? In dem Vortrag analysierte Prof.in Dr.in Gundula Ludwig die Bedeutung dieser Prozesse auf feministische, queere und trans* Politiken und Lebensweisen, aber auch welche Rolle emanzipatorische Politiken der Sorge einnehmen, um diese Prozesse aufzubrechen.

Heute ist die neue Ausgabe des Jahrbuchs der Europäischen Integration erschienen. In diesem Jahr gehört Dr. Philipp Gieg vom Lehrstuhl für Internationale Beziehungen und Europaforschung zum Team der Autorinnen und Autoren. Er verfasste den Beitrag zur Afrikapolitik der Europäischen Union.

What role do Small Island States play in current international debates on climate, the environment, and ecocide? Jun.-Prof. Ulrike Zeigermann and Dr. Philipp Gieg explore this question in their article "Judicialization as contestation: Ecocide, the small island states, and the international politics of environmental justice", which has just been published in Environment and Planning E: Nature and Space.

As part of the cooperation project between the Chair of Methods of Quantitative Empirical Social Research and the City of Würzburg, a total of 2,944 households returned a completed questionnaire in spring 2023 (reported response rate: 38.6 %). Following the presentation of the initial results to the PUMA Committee (Planning-Environment-Mobility Committee) on 5 March 2024 and the current publication of the results report, the follow-up project is now starting, which will examine the citizens' data in even greater depth using a mixed-method design.
